SingCat, linking cultures

A project to share, discover and create cultural dialogue.

SingCat; a project focused on creating cultural synergies between Singapore and Catalonia, with the intention of exploring the visual arts of these different cultures using workshops, conferences and research.

Singapore is a young city-state in South-East Asia, and only became an independent Republic in 1965. Yet, already it has important infrastructure for performances and artistic endevours and shows a clear intention to become a reference point and link for the contemporary art scene of South East Asia and the world.

Catalonia, and its capital, Barcelona, thanks to a strategic location in Spain, Europe and Mediterranean area, is traditionally a place of cultural and economic exchange. This has encouraged a rich tradition of art from which some great artists have become renowned and defined the evolution of the occidental art history (masters like Antoni Gaudi, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí o Pablo Picasso).

Actions:

  •     Research in situ the art and cultural policies taken in Singapore
  •     Encourage connection between Catalan and Singaporeran institutions, and
  •     Establish conferences and workshops on the art of each location, and the relations and differences they might have.
